The Organic Glucosamine

Chitaq is produced through a bio-conversion process, which changes one organic substance to another through entirely natural means. Chitin is used in a fermentation process to produce N-acetyl glucosamine in its natural form. In this case shrimp shells are used as its only source of chitin. Prior to the process, all allergens are removed from the chitin source. This is to ensure that those who are allergic to shrimp or other crustaceans will not have an allergic reaction in taking Chitaq. This is followed by a carefully controlled fermentation process which breaks down the chitin to produce N-acetyl glucosamine in its natural form.

The Pure Glucosamine

Subsequent to the fermentation process, the product then passes through a stringent five-system filtering process to attain the highest standard of purity. The finished product is certified 99.9% pure N-acetyl glucosamine, free of inorganic impurities and safe for the consumer. Chitaq is made in Canada; it meets all Canadian standards and regulations.

The Effective Glucosamine

Chitaq is bottled in liquid form. As a fully water soluable product, the body can begin absorbing the N-acetyl glucosamine immediately from the mouth down. 90% of the N-acetyl glucosamine is absorbed before leaving the stomach, making it extremely effective.

The "Green" Glucosamine

The production of Chitaq is entirely environmentally safe; no harmful byproducts or pollutants are produced. Indeed, it was out of a concern for health consequences and environmental impact that this alternative production technology was developed.

The Difference in Chitaq

Traditionally, the industry's method of making N-acetyl glucosamine is to hydrolyze chitin with concentrated hydrochloric acid to produce glucosamine or glucosamine compounds. However, hydrochloric acid is an extremely corrosive substance which indiscriminately breaks down many other materials in the chitin. This introduces a mixture of undesirable inorganic substances which may cause a variety of side effects. Disposal of hydrochloric acid after use is also an environmental concern.

Furthermore, foreign substances added to glucosamine products to turn them into pill or capsule form must first be broken down by the digestive system before the N-acetyl glucosamine can be released. Then, compounds of glucosamine will also need to be further converted into N-acetyl glucosamine before the body can use it as a supplement. Both of these barriers drastically reduce the effectiveness of such a product.

The Chitaq technology is a thoughtful response to these important concerns. It is an accomplishment to deliver organic, pure, safe, effective and environmental friendly N-acetyl glucosamine.

The Scientist

The Chitaq technology was developed by Dr. Stephen Ng (Ph.D., microbiology and biochemistry, University of Manitoba). Dr. Ng has more than 30 years of accomplished and published scientific research experience. Dr. Ng has held full professorships in the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, and Microbiology at the University of Toronto and at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. He was also associated with the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Faculty of Medicine, and the University of British Columbia. Dr. Ng has won numerous research grants, including ones from the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Medical Research Council of Canada, the Science Council of British Columbia, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada.
